Meet The Team – Rebecca

Meet Rebecca. She is one of our new pool assistants that joined the team in 2023. She has been a massive help to the team and has meant, jointly with Shanna-Kay that Likkle Swimmers is a much safer, friendlier and more organised program.

Rebecca is a very hard working, responsible and caring individual who always has lots of new ideas to add to the program to help us expand even further.

‘Ambitious, Unique, Passionate, Nuturing, Dedicated and Fun are just some of the words my family would use to describe Likkle Swimmers. We have been truly blessed to be part of this programme for the last couple of years and now I am honored to also call likkle swimmers my work home.

I can hear you asking, What does a pool assistant actually do? The simple answer is many things. As well as keeping the pool side clean and tidy, I am also responsible for setting up the whats app groups and communicating with parents. I take pictures everyday and also maintain attendance records as well as making sure that the swim wear programme runs smoothly.

My first summer working for Likkle Swimmers has been a fantastic experience. It has been amazing to see how all of the children have progressed and grown in confidence in their swimming. I have seen children that don’t want to touch the water on day 1 but after two weeks are happily splashing and attempting to swim themselves across the pool. This is testament to the abilities of the teachers and the likkle swimmers charity.

Coming the from the UK, I was shocked to learn that swimming was not widley taught across Jamaica to children. Considering this is an small island were the beach is never too far away. I realised very quickly that my younger two children would not have the same opportunities to learn to swim as my eldest did in the UK. Then someone told me about Likkle Swimmers. Thanks to this amazing wonderful programme, all three of my children can now swim. This charity is truly unique and we are all fortunate that this is on our doorstep. I know that every year likkle swimmers is helping to develop confident and safe swimmers. I hope in the future that every parish in Jamaica can have a likkle swimmers programme.’
